Editing Video on the sgi

We've got a pretty sweet setup for editing video on the sgis.

We can digitize video on the sgi studio, and supposedly the onyx (quexalcoatl) and the sgi 230 (perroazul) and pogo (wisepoint) machines too (but I don't know how).

On the studio, I use the mediarecorder tool in the Icon Catalog:Media Tools. Select the filmstrip icon at the bottom to record a movie, and select the video source from the pop-up dialog. You can record from the o2cam, a video source with rca jacks (use the yellow input) or a s-video source.

Mediarecorder records in quicktime format with jpeg compression, but the compression is really bad. I usually reformat the movie to MPEG using the moviemaker tool (first read the quicktime file, then export an MPEG). Moviemaker also allows you to add titles, effects, manipulate the sourndtrack, and cut and edit the movie.
